Simcoe North Residents Overwhelmingly Want Electoral Reform
The Simcoe North Federal Liberals recently made a detailed submission to the Special Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reform.
The document sets-out the riding association’s position on electoral reform, and provides insight into the views of Simcoe North residents through an in-depth survey conducted between September 20th, 2016, and October 5th, 2016.
In total, 566 Simcoe North residents participated in the survey, and there were 458 completed responses:
- 78% of respondents said the existing First-Past-The-Post (FPP) system of voting should be replaced
- 80% feel that Proportional Representation represents an improvement over FPP
- 79% feel that Ranked Balloting represents an improvement over FPP
- 55% said Proportional Representation is the best alternative to FPP, 45% chose Ranked Balloting
